advertisement
Through its newly created Florida Rail Enterprise arm, the Florida Department of Transportation has contracted HNTB Corp. and Wilbur Smith Associates (WSA) as the program manager for the state’s new high-speed rail (HSR) system, which recently received a $1.25 billion federal grant for a first-phase segment between Tampa and Orlando.
The HNTB/WSA team will provide overall program support and oversight for planning, design, public outreach, vehicle and systems integration, operations, construction, project controls and procurement of all contracts.
Created in December 2009 by Florida’s legislature, the Florida Rail Enterprise is responsible for planning, constructing, maintaining, operating and promoting the state’s HSR system. The enterprise also coordinates the development and operation of Florida’s publicly funded passenger-rail systems.
