5241 Engineer - Electrical at SFMTA

The Vehicle Train Control Engineer will lead the integration of a new communications-based train control (CBTC) system with SFMTA’s Siemens S200 vehicles. The position will be responsible for the successful design, fitment, and testing of all onboard equipment necessary to fully install the system on the S200 fleet and will represent the SFMTA in project review and discussion related to onboard equipment installation. The successful applicant will have engineering experience working on communications-based train control systems and/or experience designing and engineering onboard rail electronic communications systems. 

The new train control system will be delivered through a series of contracts with a CBTC vendor and other firms. The Vehicle Train Control Engineer will coordinate the design activities related to onboard vehicle equipment between the CBTC vendor, the vehicle manufacturer, and the onboard equipment installer. The Vehicle Train Control Engineer will work closely with these three parties to ensure that the delivery and installation of onboard train control equipment is completed according to the project requirements. The position will develop of an installation plan to facilitate this process and assist with the selection, training, management, and development of project engineering staff.

5211 Lead Project Engineer at SFMTA

 Section/Unit: Program Delivery and Support; Transit Technology Work Location: 1455 Market Street, 7th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103 Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:30AM- 5:30PM The Lead Project Engineer will manage the Train Control Upgrade Project engineering team and will act as the SFMTA lead for the overall system design. The Lead Project Engineer will also assist the Project Manager with oversight duties related to project design to facilitate the procurement, design, installation, testing and maintenance of the future train control system and ensuring that it meets the SFMTA’s requirements and conforms to all applicable SFMTA, state, local, and federal standards.  The Lead Project Engineer will act as the SFMTA design authority for the project and will act as the SFMTA technical representative to review, accept, or when necessary, audit, technical project submittals and deliverables provided by the Supplier and other project contractors related to system design. 
The Train Control Upgrade Project is an 8-year, multi-million dollar project with the goal of modernizing the existing Advanced Train Control System in Muni’s subway as well as expanding the supervision and limited control aspects of a Communication-Based Train Control System to the entire Muni light rail system. The new train control system will be delivered through a series of contracts with a CBTC vendor and other firms. The successful applicant will have technical expertise and knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of train control and/or signaling systems and possess engineering experience working on communications-based train control systems and/or experience designing and engineering onboard rail electronic communications systems.
