Minneapolis-area Christmas shoppers won’t have to worry as much about finding parking at the country’s largest mall. Minnesota’s Metropolitan Council recently announced that the remainder of the Hiawatha light-rail line — which will serve the Mall of America — will open Dec. 4, four weeks ahead of schedule.
The four-mile, five-station section also will serve Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and the city of Bloomington.
In June, operator Metro Transit opened the eight-mile first phase of the $715.3 million line, which includes 12 stations between Minneapolis and Fort Snelling.
