The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has launched the second phase of a public input survey that will help guide the development of the 2026 Virginia Statewide Rail Plan.
DRPT wants to hear from residents, business owners, community members and travelers about what the future of rail in Virginia should look like. A 5-10 minute survey is available to take online through early November, DPRT officials said in a press release. The first phase of the survey was conducted in March.
Survey respondents will be asked for input on strategies to support freight- and passenger-rail service. Those who take the survey will be able to enter a drawing for two roundtrip Amtrak Northeast Regional tickets.
DRPT updates the statewide rail plan every four years. The survey, conducted in collaboration with the University of Virginia's Institute for Engagement and Negotiation, will inform the final plan, which will be released in early 2027.
