The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking public feedback on proposed changes to transit facilities on the east side of the College Park Metrorail Station.

The agency is considering redeveloping the station's park-and-ride surface lot into a multifamily residential building with ground-floor retail, WMATA officials said in a press release.

In anticipation of the project, the state of Maryland and Prince George's County, Md., financed the construction of a 1,290-space parking garage that opened in 2005 to replace and expand the spaces that would be displaced.

A private developer would build the joint development. If the project is approved by WMATA's board, construction could begin in 2018.
