SMART board advances Geyserville station project

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) board has approved a resolution adding the proposed Geyserville Station to SMART’s development plan.

The proposed commuter-rail station would be located near Highway 128 and Remmel Road in Geyserville, California, within SMART’s existing right-of-way and the urban service area. The decision follows strong community support gathered through public meetings, an online survey and discussions with local groups, SMART officials said in a press release.

SMART's current five-year strategic plan, adopted in 2025, includes exploring the addition of a station in Geyserville and reaffirms the agency's commitment to completing a full extension of the passenger-rail system from Larkspur to Cloverdale, as originally approved by a voter referendum in 2008, they added.

If completed, the project would restore passenger-rail access to Geyserville for the first time in nearly 70 years, SMART officials said.

With the board approval, SMART can now move into the next stages of planning, project development and funding. Construction is not yet authorized; additional funding and implementation steps will be needed before construction can begin.
