Norfolk Southern Railway is accepting applications for the 2026 Thoroughbred Scholars program, which is open to NS employees' children who are pursuing higher education and technical training.
Applications are due April 20. Students may use scholarship funding toward undergraduate degrees at accredited two- or four-year colleges, as well as vocational-technical programs that are at least one semester in length, NS officials said in a press release.
Since the creation of the Thoroughbred Scholars program in 2022, NS has awarded nearly $4.5 million in scholarships.
NS will award 100 students renewable scholarships of $2,500 per year for up to four years. Additionally, the company will award three $10,000 annual scholarships to students pursuing science, technology, engineering and math fields; attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or who have demonstrated "exceptional community leadership," company officials said.
The proposed merger between Union Pacific Railroad and NS will not affect existing and newly awarded scholarships, NS officials added.
