RailPower Technologies Corp. has lined up another shipper trial for its hybrid Green Kid™ locomotive. Dow Chemical Co. recently agreed to test the 1,000-horsepower switcher for 30 days at its Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, facility.

Featuring 130-horsepower diesel generators and long-life recyclable batteries, the Green Kid and 2,000-horsepower Green Goat™ are designed to reduce NOx and other emissions about 90 percent, and fuel use between 50 percent and 80 percent compared with a conventional switcher.

RailPower recently secured short-term Green Kid lease trials from shippers Agrium Inc., James Richardson International Ltd. and Chevron Products Co., and obtained a six-unit order from rolling stock lessor Railserve Inc.
