Sound Transit seeks input on proposed Everett Link extension

Sound Transit and the Federal Transit Administration on Sept. 18 published the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed Everett Link extension.

The publication of the draft EIS begins a 45-day public comment period, which will run through Nov. 2, Sound Transit officials said in a press release. The extension will connect downtown Everett, Washington, with Lynnwood and the larger Link light-rail system. It will complete a voter-approved regional expansion of Sound Transit's light-rail network.

The Everett Link extension will add about 16 miles of light-rail tracks and six new stations to the Link network. The public is invited to review the draft EIS and comment on the preferred alternatives. "Everett is a major job center, and connecting our community to the regional light-rail system will create new opportunities for people to get to work, school and the places they need to go," said Sound Transit board member Cassie Franklin. "The draft EIS gives us a much clearer picture of the benefits, impacts and tradeoffs of the different alternatives. It’s important that we hear directly from the people, businesses and neighborhoods that could be affected as we work toward the best path forward for Everett and our region."
