Rail News: Communication and Signal
Ansaldo STS recently won a $759 million contract from a local authority in the city of Naples, Italy, to build the Mergellina-to-Municipio section of Line 6 for the Naples metro.
The contract includes a Mergellina-to-San Pasquale stretch covered in an earlier pact worth $152 million. Ansaldo STS previously obtained a contract for and built the Mostra-to-Mergellina section, which opened in February.
Through its Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari subsidiary, Ansaldo STS will serve as the main contractor to the local authority and provide all civil engineering and technological services for Line 6, including signaling, automation systems and rolling stock. Work is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
Line 6 is part of an east-west coastal passenger-rail corridor linking Naples to other parts of Italy. Part of the corridor will run underground.
