Rail News: Logistics

Twin Eagle frac sand unit train lands at Mission Rail

Twin Eagle Sand Logistics LLC last week landed its first 130-car unit train of frac sand at its Mission Rail terminal in Elmendorf, Texas.

The extra-long unit train is one of the largest frac sand trains to land in the Eagle Ford Shale, company officials said in a press release. The train was off-loaded into the company's new 60 million pound frac sand silo system, which is scaled to house up to 300 rail cars of frac sand, and can load a truck in less than two minutes.

"Longer laterals, more stages and closer spacing of wells are increasingly common in today's shale plays, which is why frac sand intensity per well continues its rise," said  Twin Eagle Chief Executive Officer Griff Jones.

Twin Eagle's other sand terminals include the Laredo Terminal in the South Eagle Ford; the Evans Terminal located near Evans, Colo., to serve the DJ Basin; and the Powder River Basin Terminal in Douglas, Wyo. A terminal near Big Springs, Texas, is under development.
