Wallboard shipper boots up RMI's car monitoring system

Today, RMI announced American Gypsum Co. has begun using ShipperConnect™ Freight Management Services (FMS) to monitor rail shipments. The wallboard shipper plans to use RMI’s Web-based service to reduce transit times and increase rail-car utilization.

FMS is designed to update car-movement data — derived from more than 300 North American railroads — several times per hour. Later this year, RMI will integrate data from American Gypsum's order entry system with FMS to improve the shipper’s inventory control processes.

“Because of the increased predictability of rail transit times and decreased average cycle times, we will be able to ship more product by rail,” said American Gypsum Director of Logistics Wayne Johnson in a prepared statement.

RMI offers Internet-based products designed to manage transportation, revenue, equipment, freight and rolling stock.
