Pandrol has signed a contract to manufacture fastening systems for Shanxi Jingshen Railway Co. Ltd. as part of a national infrastructure project in China. Under the agreement, Pandrol will manufacture FC-16 fastenings to cover 144 miles of track through Menghua to Central china, Pandrol officials said in a press release. In total, the project involves nearly 880,000 fastening rail sets. Financial details of the contract weren't disclosed.Stantec has opened an office in the town of Whitby in Ontario's Durham Region. The office will offer infrastructure consulting services in the land development, transportation and water sectors. Experts in the Whitby location also will provide building condition audit and environmental services. Stantec's work in the Durham Region include serving as technical adviser on GO Transit's Bowmanville rail expansion and providing engineering peer review for Whitby.Protran Technology has hired Kyley Holmstrom as director of sales. He has more than 20 years of experience in senior management and sales, engineering operations and purchasing in the rail industry. Most recently, he served as general manager for transit sales at L.B. Foster Co. Holmstrom also worked at Union Pacific Railroad.WSP USA has named John Meng office leader and senior engineering manager in Las Vegas. He's responsible for the management, growth and development of the Las Vegas office, as well as performance of WSP projects in the area. Meng has worked in the transportation industry for more than two decades and has served as a design manager on the California's high-speed rail project.The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) has opened applications for its 2018 scholarship program. This year, the association will award one $7,500 President's Scholarship, as well as one $5,000 runner-up scholarship and five additional individual scholarships at $2,500 each. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be a full- or part-time employee of a REMSA member company, or the spouse, child or grandchild of a current employee at a REMSA member company. At the time of application, candidates also must attend an accredited two-year college or an accredited college or university offering a bachelor's degree.
