Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
On Monday, 10East Corp. announced it’s introducing a handheld computer to the railroad industry that offers increased durability.
The company recently added its Railway Daily Operations Control System (RailDOCS™) software — which is used by freight and passenger railroads to manage business processes — and a Linux® open-source operating system to Tripod Data Systems’ Recon™ handheld computers. Designed to operate in the field all day and withstand extreme outdoor and industrial environments, the customized computer weighs 17 ounces, features widely spaced buttons and offers a comfortable grip.
“Our rail customers have been asking for a handheld computer that will withstand the harsh work conditions, and inevitable bumping and dropping of daily use,” said 10East Vice President Mike Wilson in a prepared statement.
The company plans to market the computers to other industries, including the military, homeland security and heavy industrial markets.
