Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Trimble, Greenbrier, AECOM and Transdev (Feb. 9)

Trimble has acquired Beena Vision Systems Inc., a manufacturer of vision-based automatic wayside inspection systems. Financial terms were not disclosed. Beena Vision's systems have been installed on most Class Is, as well as on other rail systems around the world. The company's products complement Trimble's rolling stock asset management solutions, Trimble officials said in a press release. When integrated with the Trimble platform, Beena Vision's solutions will offer rail operators a "more complete picture" of their rolling stocks' on-board systems, Trimble officials said.

The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. has hired FBI-veteran Greg Bretzing as director of global security and special projects. In the newly created role, Bretzing will oversee physical security measures at all of Greenbrier's facilities, company officials said in a press release. He'll also manage security for business travelers outside the United States. Bretzing served the FBI from 1995 through January 2017. His most recent position was special agent in charge of the bureau's field office in Portland, Ore. Before his time at the FBI, Bretzing worked as a certified public accountant at Ernst & Young.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority has tapped AECOM Singapore Pte Ltd. to conduct an advanced engineering study for the design of high-speed rail infrastructure. The study includes providing architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical and other design services required for the country's high-speed rail project, AECOM officials said in a press release. AECOM has "extensive experience" in high-speed rail projects internationally, including the planning and design of the Beijing South high-speed rail station in China, company officials said.

Transdev has promoted Bill Bishop to vice president of VTMI, the firm's rail maintenance and infrastructure subsidiary. He has nearly four decades of management experience in rail engineering, infrastructure maintenance and construction, Transdev officials said in a press release. Bishop has worked for freight and passenger railroads, including the New Mexico Rail Runner Express commuter-rail service in Albuquerque. He also served as interim general manager of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority under Transdev's contract with the agency.
