Bombardier Transportation, as the lead in a consortium with Thales, has obtained the second contract to be awarded by Spain's Administrator of Railway Infrastructure, ADIF, for the upgrade of the Mediterranean Corridor. The Bombardier INTERFLO 200 mainline solution will be delivered for the Almussafes-Valencia-Castellon de la Plana section on the east coast of Spain. The total contract is valued at $61 million, with Bombardier's share valued at $38 million.Keolis Commuter Services has named David Plumb chief mechanical officer for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter-rail contract that begins July 1. Plumb will organize, direct, control and coordinate the daily fleet maintenance operations, including train performance, safety, customer service, preventive maintenance activities, federal compliance, warehousing activities, facility maintenance, oversight and repair, and host railroad relations. Plumb has 41 years of experience in the rail industry, including several positions with MTA Metro-North Railroad.Lilee Systems has been selected as the communications systems provider for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's positive train control design and deployment project. Bombardier Transportation, the systems integration lead for the project, awarded Lilee Systems the subcontract to design, engineer, manufacture and deploy the end-to-end wireless and wired ACSES II communications system for MTA Metro-North Railroad and MTA Long Island Rail Road.Railex plans to begin offering its temperature-controlled multi-modal and third-party logistics services in Jacksonville, Fla., in June. The launch of the Southeast services, along with facilities in Delano, Calif., Wallula, Wash., and Schenectady, N.Y., provide Railex a nationwide reach, company officials said in a press release. Railex can offer West Coast shippers a year-round, uninterrupted expedited shipping solution into the once under-served Southeast, they said.The Andersons Inc. announced first-quarter net income attributable to the company of $22.7 million, or 80 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $1 billion. In the same three-month period last year, the company reported net income of $12.6 million, or 45 cents per diluted share, on $1.3 billion in revenue. The Rail Group posted first-quarter operating income of $15 million on revenue of $52 million versus $14.6 million in operating income and revenue of $46 million in first-quarter 2013. The group's revenue and income benefited from higher lease rates and increased income from car sales, according to a company press release.
