Canada launches transportation, supply chain workforce alliance

The government of Canada on Aug. 24 launched the Transportation and Supply Chain Workforce Alliance, the third alliance formed by the federal government in a series of efforts to address workforce challenges in critical sectors.

The alliance will focus on tackling labor shortages across Canada's road, rail, air, marine and warehousing sectors. The transportation industry is facing an aging workforce and persistent labor shortages even as trade volumes continue to grow, Canada officials said in a press release. The new alliance will bring together employers, educators, labor organizations and Indigenous partners to identify workforce challenges and develop coordinated solutions.

Led by Trucking HR Canada in partnership with CIFFA - Canada's Association of Logistics Providers, the alliance will support initiatives to strengthen skills development, attract new talent, adapt to new technology and improve collaboration across the sector.
