Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway opens Candor Logistics Park

The Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway (ACWR) has opened its new Candor Logistics Park in Montgomery County, North Carolina. 

The 30-acre transload and distribution site can accommodate over 100 rail cars and features certified scales, water, fencing, lighting, security cameras and automated gate access, ACWR officials said in a press release. It will handle multiple commodities, including fuels, food-grade products, plastic resins and bulk dry commodities.

Candor Logistics Park has two adjacent properties available for industrial development. The sites are open for manufacturers and distributors that require access to the national rail network. Both sites are graded, ready for construction and can handle development pads between 100,000-300,000 square feet. ACWR aims to attract new or relocating industries with a targeted investment of $50 million and creation of 50-100 new jobs, railroad officials said. 

The park is the result of a joint effort by ACWR and Montgomery County Economic Development, supported by grants from the North Carolina Southeast Partnership and North Carolina Railroad Co. ACWR also secured several grants from the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Freight Rail & Rail Crossing Safety Improvement Program.

"Candor Logistics Park has been a goal of the ACWR for several years. Having these two sites available for industrial development opportunities and a distribution operation of this size, situated in central North Carolina, with easy highway access to [Interstate 73], is a major win for North Carolina," said Paul Hoben, ACWR's director of business development. 

Located centrally in the state, the Candor Logistics Park offers convenient access to Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina, ACWR officials said. ACWR interchanges with Norfolk Southern Railway in Charlotte and with CSX in Aberdeen.
