Ohio commission approves bridge repairs, line rehabilitation work

Last week, the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved $226,000 in funding that will enable U.S. Rail Corp. to repair four small bridges on a 65-mile line it operates for the city of Jackson, which owns the segment.

The bridges had been declared unsafe by the Federal Railroad Administration and previously were shut down until temporary repairs could be completed, according to the ORDC.

The commission also approved plans to administer an Ohio Department of Development grant to rehabilitate an Ashland Railway line from Mansfield to West Salem, and extended a job and carload commitment agreement by two years for the Wellsville Intermodal Industrial Park that’s governed by the Columbiana County Port Authority.

In addition, the ORDC considered a $100,000 grant for the Akron Barberton Cluster Railway’s planned Kent-to-Ravenna track rehabilitation work and a $78,000 grant for the city of Greenfield’s $4 million track rehab project.
