The Port of Los Angeles handled just over 1 million 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) in June, up 12% from volume during the same month in 2025, making it the busiest June in the port’s 118-year history.
No other port in the Western hemisphere has surpassed the 1 million container mark in a single month; this is the third time the Port of L.A. has done so, port officials said in a press release.
Volume was driven by strong import demand as retailers and manufacturers continued advancing shipments while navigating evolving trade policy, rising fuel costs and global supply chain uncertainty, Port of L.A. officials said. Businesses are moving cargo when conditions are favorable rather than following traditional seasonal shipping patterns, they added.
"Crossing the 1 million container mark for the third time and closing our fiscal year with more than 10.4 million TEUs are remarkable accomplishments," said Port of L.A. Executive Director Gene Seroka. "These milestones reflect the consistency of the Port of Los Angeles and the people who make them possible every day."
Loaded imports in the month totaled 530,558 TEUs, an increase of 13% from last year and the port's third-highest import month on record. Loaded exports totaled 126,365 TEUs, unchanged from a year ago. The port also processed 345,811 empty containers, up 17%.
During the first six months of 2026, the port processed 5,122,603 TEUs, 3% above the same period last year.
Pacific Harbor Line serves the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and connects the ports to the national rail network.
