Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) recently awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to provide engineering design services for a seismic retrofit project for the agency’s San Francisco Transition Structure (SFTS).
SFTS includes the Transbay Tube’s west end, movement joints, a transition structure and west-approach bored tunnels. The project is designed to address seismic vulnerabilities by stabilizing the earth slope west of the SFTS, and modifying soil properties to reduce permeability and leakage.
PB will be responsible for project management, as well as geotechnical and structural engineering analysis and design. Construction on the $65 million project is scheduled to begin in mid-2007 and be complete in 2010.
