PATH ridership on a roll at temporary World Trade Center station

advertisement

It’s been a year since the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) restored Port Authority Trans-Hudson service to the World Trade Center site, but ridership continues to exceed projections.

In October, daily ridership averaged almost 39,000 passengers compared with a projected 26,100 passengers. Prior to Sept. 11, 2001, daily ridership averaged 67,000 passengers.

Meanwhile, PANYNJ is conducting an environmental review for the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, which will replace the temporary station at the site.

Scheduled to begin construction in summer 2005, and open in phases between late 2006 and 2009, the hub will include underground pedestrian connections to New York City subways and ferries.
