Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) recently obtained a $23 million order for its Stoneblower track-maintenance equipment from United Kingdom national railway system Network Rail.
A subsidiary of Harsco Corp., HTT expects to deliver the first units in early 2004.
Developed in conjunction with the U.K.'s railway administration, Stoneblowers are designed to pneumatically inject ballast under ties to help accurately position track without disturbing the ballast foundation.
Network Rail currently owns 13 Stoneblowers and an HTT Track Renewal Train, a self-contained, multi-unit maintenance train designed to restore and upgrade track.
In September 2002, HTT received a $25 million order from Network Rail for switch and crossing-rail grinders, which the supplier plans to deliver by year end.
