Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) continues to mine the Chinese market for track maintenance equipment orders.
Less than a week after ringing up its largest-ever equipment sale in the country, HTT has obtained an order for a lightweight rail grinder to be used on a 17-mile passenger-rail line being built for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The line will run between Beijing International Airport and Dongzhimen, where a public transport interchange is under construction. The grinder will be used to re-profile railhead contours to extend rail life, provide smoother travel at high speeds, and reduce fuel consumption and operating costs.
Last week, HTT received two orders totaling more than $350 million over four years from the Chinese Ministry of Railways for more than 40 grinders to be delivered by early 2011.
A Harsco Corp. subsidiary, HTT provides track maintenance equipment and services in North America, China, Japan, India and Europe.
