CSXT to speed up trains in three Florida counties
advertisement
CSX Transportation Nov. 5 announced plans to increase freight and passenger train speeds beginning Nov. 14 in its Tallahassee Subdivision, which runs through portions of Florida's Jefferson, Madison and Leon counties.
Speeds would be raised in 5 mph to 10 mph increments during a three-week period; CSXT plans to have all trains operating at new authorized speeds by Nov. 28.
Freight trains would increase speed from 50 mph to 60 mph, and passenger trains would raise speed from 50 mph to 60 mph, 70 mph or 79 mph (depending on location).
CSXT during the past year improved track and grade-crossing warning devices to support the train speed increase, which railroad officials believe would improve operating efficiency and minimize motorist delays.
