APTA honors Jacobs for sustainability efforts

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has recognized member organization Jacobs with the Platinum level in the association’s Sustainability Commitment Program, the highest level of achievement in the program.

The program, created in 2009, recognizes public transportation agencies and businesses for implementing policies and practices that promote continuous improvement in environmental, social and economic sustainability. Organizations are recognized at the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum level based on measurable achievements, APTA officials said in a press release.

“APTA is proud to recognize Jacobs for its leadership and ongoing commitment to sustainability,” said APTA President and CEO Paul Skoutelas. “By embedding sustainability into its projects, operations and business practices, Jacobs is helping strengthen communities, improve resilience and advance a more sustainable future for public transportation.”

Jacobs earned APTA’s praise for its integration of sustainability concerns into project delivery and business practices and its consistency and transparency in reporting its performance regarding sustainability and corporate responsibility, APTA officials said.

Notably, Jacobs has established a Global Network of Environmental Managers, which brings together subject matter experts in environmental regulatory compliance, permitting, environmental management systems, hazardous materials and waste management to support projects and share knowledge and best practices.

In fiscal-year 2024, Jacobs operated using 100% renewable electricity and reduced its total annual greenhouse gas emissions by 60% from its 2019 baseline. Approximately 74% of its nearly $12 billion annual revenue supported work aligned with environmental, social and governance priorities. Jacobs also contributed about $12.5 million through corporate citizenship and philanthropic initiatives, APTA officials said.
