FRA, California High Speed Rail Authority to conduct environmental study on two proposed corridors

The Federal Railroad Administration plans to jointly prepare an Environmental Impact Statement with the California High Speed Rail Authority for two sections of the state’s proposed high-speed passenger-rail line.

The agencies will review preliminary engineering designs and assess environmental impacts associated with the construction, operation and maintenance of the Palmdale-to-Los Angeles and Los Angeles-to-Orange County corridors.

The authority has proposed building a 700-mile high-speed rail system between San Francisco and San Diego over which trains would travel at speeds exceeding 200 mph.
