CSXT partners with New York, New Jersey to boost rail security

A rail security partnership CSX Transportation recently forged with the states of New York and New Jersey could serve as a model for similar joint ventures with other states.

Yesterday, the Class I announced it formed the partnership to share information, resources and strategies with the states to better protect communities along the railroad’s lines.

CSXT will provide New Jersey and New York security officials access to the railroad’s online Network Operations Workstation system to track the location of trains and monitor rail-car contents in real time. CSXT security professionals also will be available 24/7 to state officials and work with law enforcement officers on joint rail security training and preparedness exercises.

“We’re pleased to be the first railroad and among the first private industries to formalize security partnerships with the states in order to jointly safeguard both the communities we serve and our ability to move goods so critical to the economy,” said CSXT Vice President and Chief Transportation Officer David Brown in a prepared statement.
