Calling all congressmen: 'Railroad Day on the Hill' set for Feb. 11

On Feb. 11, hundreds of representatives from railroads, rail-labor unions, and rail industry suppliers and associations plan to descend on Capitol Hill during the sixth annual "Railroad Day on the Hill" to conduct a series of meetings with representatives and senators.

Officials from the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA), Association of American Railroads, Railway Supply Institute and other organizations expect to meet with congressmen to discuss reauthorization of Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) — which is scheduled to expire Feb. 29 — and passage of The Local Railroad Rehabilitation and Investment Act of 2003 (H.R. 876/S. 1703), and other rail-related legislation.

"Railroad Day on the Hill is one of the railroad industry's best opportunities to meet and interact with the key policy makers and influence the political process," said ASLRRA officials in the association's bi-monthly newsletter. "TEA-21 … is arguably the most important legislation impacting the transportation industry. Since this law is only examined once every six years, it is imperative that we make our voices heard and get our concerns addressed in the new bill."
