WMATA to build police substation

Last week, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) broke ground on a Metro Transit Police Department substation near the Fort Totten Metrorail station.

To be named after Metro Officer Marlon Morales, who was shot and killed while on duty in 2003, the $4.9 million station will serve as a home base for District I patrolmen. The three-story, 18,500-square-foot building will house administrative and detective offices, crime scene and evidence storage areas, a meeting room, training area and gym. The substation is scheduled to open in early 2007.
