Washington Group adds long-time transit advocate Alexander to mid-Atlantic team

Washington Group International Inc. recently named Joseph Alexander director, rail and transit, of the company’s infrastructure business unit.

Alexander will lead Washington Group’s general transportation projects in the mid-Atlantic region. His first major project will be to assist public-private partnership Dulles Transit Partners L.L.C. in building a rail line connecting Dulles Airport Corridor with the Washington Metropolitan Area Regional Transit Authority (WMATA) system.

He also will represent Washington Group on American Public Transportation Association committees.

Previously, Alexander served on WMATA’s board for 23 years, acting as chairman four times and working with federal, state and local officials to build and operate the 103-mile system. He also served on the Fairfax County (Va.) Board of Supervisors and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, helping to coordinate financing for Virginia Railway Express.
