The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) on Wednesday launched its third new ship-to-shore container crane.
Manufactured by German firm Liebherr Crane Co., the crane features a 100-foot lift height and the capability to reach across 17 containers on a ship’s deck. Stationed at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal, it helps expand cargo-handling capabilities at Florida’s largest container port, JAXPORT officials said in a press release.
This crane is the final of three new Liebherr container cranes added at the port over the past year. Two entered service in January at the Blount Island Marine Terminal.
All three cranes were purchased as part of a multiyear, $93 million initiative to modernize JAXPORT’s crane fleet.
“With support from our partners at the state of Florida, we continue to make strategic investments that create economic growth and support jobs,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green.
The port is served by CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and Florida East Coast Railway. The Talleyrand terminal provides customers with direct switching to CSX and NS via the 10-mile Jacksonville Port Terminal Railroad.
