Hedlund sworn in as STB's newest member

Karen Hedlund was sworn in yesterday as the newest member of the Surface Transportation Board (STB). The U.S. Senate approved her appointment on Dec. 16, 2021.

Hedlund previously served in President Barack Obama's administration as chief counsel of the Federal Highway Administration, as well as chief counsel and deputy administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration. Since then, she has been a consultant for public and private entities on developing passenger-rail and transportation-oriented development projects.

Prior to her work during Obama’s tenure, Hedlund was a legal adviser to government agencies and private lenders and investors on the development of rail, transit, highways, airports, water and energy infrastructure projects.
