Wochner to manage KCS' coal unit marketing, sales

Kansas City Southern recently promoted William "Jim" Wochner to vice president of sales and marketing, coal business unit and contracts. Since 1994, he has served as VP and general solicitor.

Wochner will continue to serve as general solicitor, but in addition be responsible for Kansas City Southern Railway's (KCSR) and The Texas Mexican Railway Co.'s coal marketing.

Since joining KCS in 1981, Wochner also has served as general attorney and senior VP of marketing. Prior to KCS, he served the Interstate Commerce Commission, Nebraska Public Service Commission and AT&T in various legal capacities.

Wochner's appointment is part of a KCS' plan to restructure KCSR's and Tex Mex's sales and marketing departments into business units. The restructuring is designed to remove organizational layers, improve customer service and business processes, and enable managers to focus on developing major accounts. KCS officials plan to provides sales and marketing employees with career development and cross-training opportunities within the railroad's four commodity business units.
