Sound Transit can proceed with Seattle-to-Everett shoreline plans

Federal agencies recently approved mitigation plans for Sound Transit’s proposed Seattle-to-Everett, Wash., service, enabling the agency to proceed with track and signal improvements.
The shoreline route would protect chinook salmon, bull trout and bald eagle habitats, according to a review by the Federal Transit Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service and U.S. Wildlife Service.
Sound Transit plans to alter shorelines while extending service along Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks, increasing passenger and freight service. Potential impacts would be offset by restoring salmon habitat in the Snohomish River estuary and implementing habitat enhancement projects, according to a prepared statement.
