On June 9, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) was awarded the Rail Transit Achievement Award at the Rail Rodeo, held at American Public Transportation Association’s Rail Transit Conference in San Jose, Calif.
SEPTA took second place in the maintainer competition and fourth place in the operator competition, earning enough points to win the overall achievement award.
In the operator competition, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority took first place; Dallas Area Rapid Transit, second; and Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, third. Operators are judged on professional skills, including train operation, and knowledge of safety regulations, train equipment, and track right-of-way rules and procedures.
In the maintainer competition, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority took first place, and Maryland Transit Administration, second. Maintainers are judged on their ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems.
The awards recognize workers’ efforts to keep transit systems operating safely and efficiently. Seventeen transit systems entered this year’s competition.
