New York City Transit completes repairs on another subway station
MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) officials late last week reopened the Central Avenue M subway station on the Myrtle Avenue Line following a five-month reconstruction project to repair damage caused by Hurricane Sandy last year.
The $11 million station renewal project included reconstructing the control house; refurbishing the agent booth; replacing street and platform stairs; installing new windscreens and a new drainage system; and repairing column bases. Other structural repairs were made throughout the station, NYCT officials said in a press release.
"From the day Superstorm Sandy made landfall nearly a year ago, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority [MTA] has been hard at work to repair the unprecedented damage done to our city's transit infrastructure; and as those efforts continue, the MTA still manages a number of planned station and line upgrades," said New York State Sen. Martin Malavé Dilan.
The Central Avenue Station is part of a $47 million, Federal Transit Administration-funded project to renew five stations along the M Line.
