Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx last week released a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the stations, rail and systems design-build-commission package for the Yonge North subway extension.

The project will extend the Toronto Transit Commission's Line 1 subway service 5 miles from its existing terminus at Finch Station into Richmond Hill. The extension will run through Toronto and the York region, Infrastructure Ontario officials said in a press release.

The scope of work includes the design, construction, supply, integration and commissioning of five new subway stations and associated bus facilities; emergency exit buildings, traction power substations and tunnel cross passages; all rail and signaling systems; a train storage facility; modifications to existing tail track at Finch Station; integration of new track with the existing Line 1 infrastructure and tunneling work underway; and provisions to enable work on Ontario's Transit-Oriented Communities program.

The RFQ is the first step in the team procurement process. Companies interested in bidding must register with www.merx.com to download the RFQ, Infrastructure Ontario officials said. More information is available on the Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx dedicated Yonge North extension webpages.
