The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHRSRA) is evaluating two potential locations near Fresno and Hanford for a proposed Central Valley Heavy Maintenance Facility (HMF) to support long-term operations of the future high-speed rail system.
The HMF would serve as the primary location for inspections, servicing, maintenance, overhaul and major component replacement for the high-speed train fleet, CHSRA officials said in a press release.
The potential locations were selected based on criteria including operational needs, land use compatibility, construction feasibility, and community and environmental impact.
Public comments are being accepted through Sept. 14, and public meetings will be held in Fresno on Aug. 25, in Hanford on Aug. 26, and virtually on Aug. 27. Find details here.
The collected input will help inform the environmental review process and preparation of the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement, CHSRA officials said. The Draft Statement will be released in early 2027; the final document is expected to be presented to the CHSRA board for approval in mid to late 2027.
