The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded $20 million in grant funds to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) to rehab seven stations along the light-rail Green Line and make them accessible to people with disabilities.
The work will be performed at the Belvoir, Courtland, Coventry, Eaton, South Park, Southington (Green Line) and West Green stations.
Upgrades will include new concrete platforms with tactile warning panels, redesigned ramps, new sidewalks, elevated platform sections and improved parking stalls with curb ramps.
“This award represents a major milestone for GCRTA and Greater Cleveland. Once this work is complete, every rail station in our system will be ADA accessible,” said India Birdsong Terry, GCRTA's general manager and CEO.
Each station’s reconstruction will also make the platforms compatible with GCRTA’s new rail cars, which are scheduled to enter service on the Green Line in August 2028.
The grant is funded through the FTA’s All Stations Accessibility Program, which was created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. The project also will be supported by an additional local match of $5 million.
