The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has released its $21.9 billion draft Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) for fiscal-years 2027-2032.
The six-year capital budget addresses maintenance needs and the state's growing economy; it advances safety initiatives and leverages state-owned land for transit-oriented development, MDOT officials said in a press release.
Key projects funded in the plan include the 16-mile light-rail Purple Line that is under construction in Prince George's and Montgomery counties; the Dundalk Martine Terminal berths 11-13 reconstruction at the Port of Baltimore; and fleet renewal initiatives for Maryland's light-rail, subway and commuter-rail systems, including Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC).
MDOT is conducting a public engagement tour across the state in September and October to receive input on the draft CTP. Dates and locations are available here.
Meanwhile, the MDOT Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has launched a new weekday connection between Montgomery County and Baltimore via MARC. Starting Sept. 28, the daily roundtrip service will provide a transfer-free connection to the major destinations of Rockville, Gaithersburg, College Park, Laurel and Baltimore for the first time.
A train will depart Baltimore in the morning and return in the evening. The new connection will reduce commute times by up to an hour. MTA adjusted existed services to provide the new connection, meaning there is no additional annual operating cost, MTA officials said in a press release.
