LIRR locomotive engineers reject contract proposal
advertisement
Last weekend, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) locomotive engineers represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) rejected the railroad’s latest contract proposal.
Based on a previous agreement reached between LIRR management, and shop craft and clerical workers, the proposal doesn’t address locomotive engineers’ issues, according to a BLET statement. In addition, management has not negotiated an hourly wage increase for engineers who operate new equipment even though a similar increase was given to track workers who belong to a different union, BLET officials claim.
BLET and LIRR officials have agreed to mediation and will continue negotiations during meetings on Dec. 7 and 8.
LIRR engineers have worked without a contract for almost two years, BLET officials said.
