Denver RTD: Unsolicited proposal for light-rail project has merit

The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) plans to advertise a request for proposals after the agency’s staff determined an unsolicited proposal for the Interstate-225 light-rail project merits moving forward to a competitive bid process.
Staff members evaluated a proposal submitted by Kiewit Infrastructure Co. on March 8, which was consistent with the agency’s unsolicited proposals policy, RTD officials said in a prepared statement.
Kiewit led the design-build construction team on the T-REX project, RTD’s and the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) joint highway/light-rail project. Kiewit is completing improvements at Denver Union Station.
During the past year, RTD officials have publicized the agency’s interest in seeking innovations to complete the FasTracks program as soon possible and reduce project costs. FasTracks is a voter-approved transit expansion program that calls for building 122 miles of commuter- and light-rail lines, a rapid bus transit system and 21,000 new parking spaces.
