CTA to realign Harrison Curve

Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) sharpest curve soon will be realigned to accommodate more trains and enable CTA to increase train speed.
Located between the Loop and Roosevelt Road, the century-old Harrison Curve’s S-shaped elevated track could only support train speed of 10 mph. After CTA disconnects track from the old structure at Harrison and Wabash and connects the straightened section, trains can increase speed to 35 mph and the authority can operate more trains in the Loop.
Curve construction is scheduled to begin May 23 and be completed May 27. In fall, CTA plans to complete the remainder of the project, including demolition work and replacing steel columns with concrete to reduce rail and wheel noise.
