NJ Transit to add, adjust train service on several lines

Beginning Oct. 29, New Jersey Transit will add 4,000 peak-period seats and adjust service on several lines.

NJ Transit will add two early morning express trains on the Northeast Corridor, one leaving Trenton, N.J., at 5:10 a.m. and another departing at 5:38 a.m. The trains will arrive in New York City at 6:16 a.m. and 6:44 a.m., respectively. The agency also will add a morning reverse-commute train departing New York City at 9:01 a.m. and arriving in Trenton at 10:09 a.m.

On the North Jersey Coast Line, the agency will add an express train departing Long Branch at 6:30 a.m. and arriving in New York at 7:51 a.m.; add a new South Amboy train departing the city at 7:34 a.m. and arriving in New York at 8:45 a.m.; extend a train that previously terminated in Newark to Hoboken; and add stops on a morning peak train at the Little Silver and Red Bank stations.

The agency also will restore an evening peak-period train on the Morris & Essex Lines that will depart Hoboken at 6:08 p.m. and arrive in Summit at 6:55 p.m.

On the Main/Bergen County Line, NJ Transit will add an early morning train to reduce a current 77-minute service gap to 30 to 45 minutes. On the Montclair-Boonton Line, the agency will adjust two MidTOWN DIRECT trains to meet 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. classes at Montclair State University.

Finally, NJ Transit will begin offering 16 “Holiday Express” trains that will operate Saturdays and Sundays on the Northeast Corridor and Morris & Essex Lines between New Jersey and New York City through Jan. 13.
