Caltrain adds fencing along rail corridor

advertisement

Through the end of July, Caltrain workers will install fencing at select locations along the commuter railroad’s corridor in San Mateo County to discourage trespassers from crossing the tracks.

The agency will spend more than $500,000 this year and another $600,000 during the next two years on the fencing program. Caltrain officials sought fencing installation recommendations from locomotive engineers and transit police, as well as officials from cities along the corridor on areas they considered to be problem areas. The largest fencing installation will be in Burlingame, where workers will add 3,875 feet of high-securtiy fencing.

In 2008, Caltrain plans to continue the program in Santa Clara County.
