The Ontario government has started excavation work at Queen Station on Metrolinx's Ontario Line subway in Toronto.

The new Metrolinx platform at Queen Station will be built over 130 feet below street level, underneath the existing Toronto Transit Commission Queen Station, Ontario government officials said in a press release. The two transit agencies will have stops on differing levels at the Queen station.

When completed, Queen Station is anticipated to be the busiest stop on the 10-mile Ontario Line. Including Queen Station, the line features 15 stations and runs from Exhibition Place through the core of downtown. It connects to the Line 5 Eglinton light-rail line at Don Mills Road.

"Our government is making incredible progress to deliver the Ontario Line, part of our broader plan to protect Ontario by reducing gridlock, creating good-paying jobs and driving economic growth," said Kinga Surma, minister of infrastructure of Ontario.
