Officials from Maywood, Illinois, late last week held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Metra station.

The nearly 900-square-foot station replaces an existing outdoor shelter. In addition to providing shelter from the elements, the new station is heated.

The station is located on Metra's Union Pacific West Line, which runs to Elburn, Illinois.

"We couldn't be happier that the Village of Maywood has provided this wonderful new facility for the benefit of their citizens and our customer," said Metra Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Don Orseno in a press release. "At a time when capital dollars are hard to come by, it takes cooperation like this to get things done."

Christopher B. Burke Engineering Ltd. provided design engineering and construction services for the $2.1 million station, which was designed by FGM Architects. The project also involved adding 40 parking spots east of the station.
