Georgia Senate passes legislation to help address MARTA's budget woes
advertisement
Yesterday, Georgia senators approved two bills that will help the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) address at least a portion of a budget shortfall for fiscal-year 2010.
One bill would remove restrictions on the use of MARTA's sales tax revenue and capital funds, eliminating a state-mandated 50/50 operating split on the sales tax revenue and enabling MARTA's interest income from capital funds to be used for operations. The other bill would allow food and drinks to be sold in MARTA's rail and intermodal stations.
Georgia's House now must vote on the legislation.
