Late last week, Norfolk Southern Railway announced it forged a new short-line partnership with Jaguar Transport Holdings LLC in Doraville, Georgia.

The Class I will lease its Doraville rail corridor and transload terminal to Jaguar Transport, which will provide local switching service and invest in targeted infrastructure upgrades to support new customer demand while integrating closely with the transload facility, NS officials said in a press release.

NS uses the Doraville corridor  which is located near Interstates 285 and 85  to serve a cluster of industrial and logistics businesses in northeast metro Atlanta. Through local switching and transload access, NS serves both rail-adjacent customers and regional shippers that depend on truck-to-rail connectivity along the route.

“This deal will drive freight growth, expand capacity and improve local service in metro Atlanta, a model that can be replicated across the network,” said Stefan Loeb, NS’ vice president of business development and first- and final-mile markets, in a press release. “We value Jaguar’s experience in local operations and proven track record as we continue to view short lines as an important part of our growth strategy.”

Jaguar will expand yard capacity and support future traffic growth in Doraville. As part of the agreement, the company has committed to performance standards and growth covenants designed to ensure long-term value creation for both companies, NS officials said.
